Zeb Reid will enter into his fifth year as the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Mid-Carolina High School in the 2009-2010 school year. Coach Reid graduated from Loganville High School in Loganville, Georgia. While at Loganville High School, Coach Reid played for Ronald M. Bradley, the state of Georgia’s All-Time Winningest Boys Basketball Coach and 2nd in the Nation with over 1,600 career wins. Coach Reid set nine school records as a Varsity Boys Basketball player and was named All County, All-Region, The Atlanta Journal and Constitution Player of the Week, The Atlanta Tip-Off Club Team of the Month, and All-State during his career. Coach Reid holds a top ten national individual record for three point percentage in a season. Coach Reid accepted a basketball scholarship to Newberry College and finished his four year career at Newberry College as the all-time leader in three point field goals and free throw percentage. Coach Reid also holds four South Atlantic Conference Top Ten Records. Coach Reid was also twice named to the Kodak Academic All-American Team and was named to the South Atlantic Conference Honor Roll all four years.

Coach Reid began his coaching career at Newberry High School as the Head Junior Varsity Basketball Coach and Asst. Varsity Coach for the Newberry High School Bulldogs. While the Asst. Varsity Boys Basketball Coach the NHS Bulldogs finished the 2002-2003 season with a 17-8 record and made it to the 2nd round of the Class AAA State Playoffs. In 2003 Coach Reid accepted the Asst. Men ’s Basketball Coaching Position and the Asst. Men’s and Women’s Golf Coaching Positions at his alma mater ( Newberry College). During the 2003-2004 Men’s Basketball Season the Newberry College Men’s Program won 16 games and finished as the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Runners-up. Coach Reid coached Tommy Burke, the former Mid-Carolina High School Boys Basketball Standout at Newberry College and helped guide him to the South Atlantic Conference All-Freshmen Team. In 2004 Coach Reid moved to Charleston, South Carolina to pursue his masters degree in physical education and sports science at the Citadel. While attending the Citadel, Coach Reid accepted the Head Boys Basketball Coach, Physical Education Teacher, and Athletic Directors Job at Trident Academy in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Coach Reid was named Region IV Class A Coach of the Year in 2004-2005 and his boys basketball team won a school record for boys varsity basketball wins. While at Trident Academy, Coach Reid’s standout player, Nick Snider was named Post and Courier Player of the Week, SCISA All-State, All-Region, and was named to the South Carolina vs. Georgia SCISA All-Star Game.

Coach Reid founded the Mid-Carolina High School Boys Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005. In Coach Reid’s first season at MCHS, Bradley Cumalander, one of Coach Reid’s 05-06 Varsity Player’s, earned a Men’s Basketball Scholarship to Newberry College, after scoring 10ppg, 7rpg, and being named to the All-Region III-AA Boys Basketball Team and Being Named 1st Team All-County by the Newberry Observer, following the 2005-2006 boys basketball season. Bradley Cumalander also broke two school records at MCHS with seven three pointers versus Saluda High School in Jan. of 2006 and Bradley is tied for the record for dunks in one season with Jordan Harmon.

During the 2006-2007 MCHS BBT Season Coach Reid had two freshmen named to the All-County Teams, which is the first time in county boys basketball history. (Jordan Harmon -6’7 Fresh. Was named 1st Team All-County after avg. 16.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg, and 2.5 blocks as a fresh. and 6’2 Calvin Herbert was named 2nd Team All County after Avg. 9.3 ppg, 9.1 rpg, and 1.3 steals per game as a fresh.) Jordan Harmon was also named All-Region III-AA after his 06-07 9th grade basketball season, along with 6’4 (06-07) Senior Ethan Manning being named for the Sportsmanship Award in Region III-AA after avg. 5.6 ppg, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

During the 2007-2008 MCHS BBT Season Coach Reid’s team enjoyed their first South Carolina Class AA State Ranking in over 25 years, being ranked in the top 10 for the first 5 weeks of the 07-08 season after starting the year (5-0) for the months of November and December 2007. Calvin Herbert was the only sophomore named All-Region 3AA in Boys Basketball after averaging 12.1ppg, 10.2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Anthony Gallman, the 07-08 MCHS BBT lone senior was named for the Sportsmanship Award in Region 3AA after avg. 3.2 ppg, 4 rebounds, and 1 block per game. Sophomore, Tevins Walker was named 2nd Team All-County by the Newberry Observer after avg. over 9.5 ppg, 3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals.

During the 2008-2009 MCHS BBT Season the Mid-Carolina Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team finished (10-10) and one game out of the Class AA State Playoffs. Calvin Herbert, 6’1 Junior Forward made All-Region 3AA Honors and 1st Team All-County Newberry Observer Honors by averaging 14ppg, 9 rebounds, and 1 steal per game. Krishawn Holley, 6’1 Junior Forward/Post made the All-Region 3AA Team and 1st Team All-County Team by avg. 11 ppg, 8 rebounds, 2 steals per game. Mac Lake, 6’2 Sophomore averaged 9 ppg, 3 rpg, 2 steals and was named to the Newberry Observer 2nd Team All-County Team. Kendrelle Neal, 6’2 Junior was named most improved player after averaging 6 ppg, 4 rpg in his first season on the varsity boys’ basketball team. CJ Edwards, Sophomore 6’3 Guard was named Best Defensive Players by his teammates after avg. 9 ppg, 2 rpg, 1 steal, and leading the team in blocked shots as a 10th grader.

Coach Reid resides in Newberry, South Carolina with his wife, the former Angela Sease. Coach Reid and Angela have a daughter named Zoe Kathryn Reid, born on Dec. 13th, 2007. Coach Reid is also a MCMS Football Coach, The President and Recorder of the Newberry College Men’s Basketball Alumni Association (NCMBAA), and on the board of directors for the Newberry College Lettermen’s Club. Coach Reid is also a member of the National Basketball Coaches Association, member of the South Carolina Coaches Association, member of SCAPHERD, member of the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association, member of the South Carolina Middle School Teachers Association, and a member of the Palmetto Teachers Association. Coach Reid was also named Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers during the 06-07 academic school year.

2005-2006 -Bradley Cumalander (Mid-Carolina High School) Named All-Region III-AA, 1st Team All County by the Newberry Observer, Player of the Week by the Newberry Observer, Newberry College Men’s Basketball Signee- May,2006 -Robert Lake (Mid-Carolina High School) Named Newcomer of the Year by the Newberry Observer in March of 2006 after avg. 9 ppg, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and being named the MCHS BBT Defensive Player of the Year. *DNP in 06-07 due to a shoulder injury suffered in Varsity Football in 2006. –Signed a baseball scholarship to Winthrop Univ. in May of 2007 (Named All-State in AA Baseball, All-Region III-AA for 2 years in baseball and was named to the 2007 North vs. South All-Star Game in Baseball.

2006-2007 -Jordan Harmon (Mid-Carolina High School) Avg. 16.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.5 blocks per game as a fresh. Named All-Region III-AA as a 9th Grader, 1st Team All-County, Broke a single season record for field goal percentage and most dunks in one game with three vs. Emerald High School in Feb. of 2007. -Calvin Herbert (Mid-Carolina High School) Named All County 2nd Team after avg. 9.3 ppg, 9.1 rpg as a fresh. Calvin was named Team MVP by his teammates as a fresh. -Ethan Manning (Mid-Carolina High School) Named Region III-AA Sportsmanship Award in Boys Basketball after avg. 1.7 assists per game, 5.6 ppg, and 1.1 steals per game as a senior. Signed a Men’s Soccer Scholarship to USC-Salkehatchie in May of 2007.

Coach Martin is no stranger to Mid-Carolina. Coach Martin was the In-School-Suspension Teacher at Mid-Carolina Middle School During the 2006-2007 school year. Coach Martin was the head junior varsity boys basketball coach during the 2006-2007 season and the 2007-2008 season. Coach Martin also coached the Mid-Carolina Middle School Girls Basketball Team from 2004-2006. Coach Martin makes his home in Newberry, SC. When Coach Martin is not at Mid-Carolina, then you can find him at one our local area golf courses.

High School Athletic/ Academic Accomplishments: (Broome High School) Basketball: All-Region 2001-2002, Played in the 2000-2001 Upper-State AAA Championship Game, All-Area 2002, Team Captain-2002, and Winner of the Centurion Award as a senior boys basketball player. Broome High School set a record for most wins in one season and first playoff victory as a junior at Broome High School.

Baseball: Played in two Upper-State Championship AAA Baseball Games in 2001 and 2002. Coach Martin was named All-State and All-Area during the 2002 season. In 2001 and 2002 Coach Martin led Broome with the highest batting average and was named MVP during the 2002 for the Broome Centurions.

Volunteer Asst. Coach: Cedric Ruff

Coach Ruff is a 2002 Mid-Carolina High School Graduate. While a student at Mid-Carolina High School, Coach Ruff was named three times the student of the quarter at the Newberry County Career Center. Coach Ruff was also a standout on the boys basketball team at Mid-Carolina High School for Coach Hubert Kinard and Coach Sammie Liberatore, where he was named the MCHS Boys Basketball MVP during the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 boys basketball season. Coach Ruff was also named to the All-Region Team during the 2000-2001 season and the 2001-2002 season. Coach Ruff was named Track and Field MVP for Coach Jackie Harris during the 2000 season.&

Coach Ruff was recently married and is currently working for the City of Columbia as a Parks Ranger and Youth Advocate. Coach Ruff resides with his wife in Little Mountain, SC.&
